Argon Oxygen Decarburization or AOD is a refining process that greatly improves the metallurgical quality of steel. The AOD refining process provides excellent control of carbon and sulfur content as well as overall soluble gas levels. Tight metallurgical control of highly alloyed nitrogen bearing alloys, such as many super duplex compositions, is greatly enhanced through AOD refining at Ashland Foundry and Machine Works.
Refining as much as an 8,000 lbs. in our AOD vessel enables Ashland Foundry to economically and efficiently produce high quality stainless and steel grades.
